A day in your life as a Deposit Compliance Officer
Under the direction of the Manager, this position is responsible for managing the enterprise wide deposit compliance programs. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business units’ compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures including but not limited to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.


We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Conduct complex quality assurance reviews to validate the effectiveness of the business unit compliance programs and related operational processes.  Review quarterly monitoring assessments submitted by the business units.  Track all identified compliance issues, and facilitate the timely resolution of correction action of such issues.  Provide direction and feedback to the business units on the quarterly monitoring assessment process and the issue tracking process.  Provide direction on the overall Consumer Compliance Monitoring Program and monitoring schedule.
  • Develop and manage the deposit and operations portions of the Bank's Consumer Compliance Program.  Provide direction for the overall Consumer Compliance Program.  Assist the business units with developing and updating their respective compliance risk assessments, including identifying and measuring regulatory compliance risks, assessing the key controls, and addressing gaps in risk management.  Facilitate the development and maintenance of the entity-wide Consumer Compliance Risk Assessment.  Analyze and report on changes in banking laws and regulations, industry trends, and best practices in consumer compliance risk management, and facilitate the timely implementation of regulatory changes. 
  • Develop and maintain the Bank-wide compliance policies and procedures for deposit products and related services, and assist the business units in developing and maintaining department-level processes and procedures.  Develop, update, conduct, or facilitate consumer compliance training for the Board, management, and employees.  Assess business unit compliance training requirements.  Provide direction on the overall Consumer Compliance Training Program and training schedule.
  • Provide compliance support and guidance to the Bank, including but not limited to compliance support related to the Bank's new or changed products or services, marketing materials, and forms and notices.  Lead or participate in compliance meetings, working groups, and taskforces.  Consult with legal counsel, regulatory agencies, vendors and compliance organizations, as needed. 
  • Promote a robust Bank-wide compliance culture, through demonstration of compliance knowledge and experience, skillful and effective communication, development of strong internal relationships, continual development and reinforcement of compliance as a core competency, and the ability to achieve compliance while achieving corporate and business objectives.  Responsible for having and maintaining a superior understanding of all consumer compliance laws and regulations that affect the Bank's deposit operations, keeping abreast of any regulatory changes, and ensuring that any regulatory changes are properly incorporated into Compliance Manager.  Also responsible for having and maintaining knowledge of the Bank's products and services, and policies, procedures, and processes. 
  • Facilitate quarterly reports for Risk Council, Audit & Risk Committee, and the Board of Directors on the status of the program.  Facilitate the deposit and operations portions of the regulatory compliance examinations and audits, including exam/audit preparation and exam/audit management.  In addition, facilitate the development of written responses to any actual or potential issues or findings.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as required or assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution in business or related area, or equivalent business experience.



  • Ten years extensive work experience in banking/audit/regulatory compliance or equivalent work experience. 
  • One to two years supervisory/leadership/management experience required. 
  • Process improvement/project management experience with lead roles also required.


Technical Skills: 

  • Working knowledge of banking laws and regulations and complex database systems. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems. 

Other Job Qualifications: 

  • Should be a self-starter, able to prioritize work to achieve the required objective in a timely manner. 
  • Must be flexible, able to work on multiple projects that may require restructuring due to shifting demands, unforeseen events and changing priorities.
  • Able to identify and define problems; conduct research and analyze information and various situations relating to data management issues. 
  • Must be able to recommend alternatives or solutions. 
  • Should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as training/presentation skills. 
  • Must be able to discuss solutions and alternatives to complex deposit compliance issues clearly and concisely with any level of staff person.
  • General knowledge of accounting principles required. 
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. 
  • Must be able to provide own transportation and arrive at intended destination in a timely manner or as required. 
  • Able to travel by air. 
  • Must be able to push/lift 10 lbs.
