Description

Under the direction of the Merchant Services Manager, this position is responsible for managing the accounting, operational reporting, and financial controls for the department, while assisting the Department Manager in fulfilling fiduciary duties related to the profitability and soundness of the business.  If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is also responsible for serving as the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) champion for the unit. This includes planning, executing, monitoring and measuring the service process.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Reviews, updates and implements procedures and policies to ensure accurate accounting, operational and financial reporting and appropriate use of Bank assets.
  • Supervises the daily operations and workflow of the accounting unit to ensure that all transactions were conducted accurately and that cash and general ledger accounts reconcile with external funding and settlement reports in a timely manner.
  • Supervises the daily operations and workflow of the Accounting unit to ensure the accurate and timely preparation of operational, performance and Regulatory/ Association reports for the department.
  • Prepares the department’s Capital and Operating budgets.
  • Analyzes and conducts research to prepare budget variance responses and to assist the Manager in preparing periodic financial performance reports for upper management, such as the QPR, BPR and Open and Closed reports. 
  • Coordinates the financial activities of the department audit. Works with auditors to provide requested financial information, including department policies, procedures, industry regulations etc.
  • Communicates audit activities and findings to the department managers and coordinates responses to citations, corrective measures and procedures to avoid repeat citations.
  • Assists the Manager in the strategic planning process by providing financial, departmental and industry data.
  • This may include historical as well as pro forma analyses. 
  • Develops and trains one or more direct reports as a backup for job duties.
  • Responsible for the management of team including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development.  
  • Goal is to attract, retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate. 
  • Responsible for the timely and effective management of Human Resources forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
  • Keeps informed and abreast of current vendor contracts, bank policies and procedures; federal laws, regulations and Card Association’s rules and bylaws that may have financial impact to the department. This may include business enhancements, pricing changes, vendor’s operational changes and product development. 

 

 


Qualifications

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution, accounting/finance major or coursework preferred, or equivalent work experience.

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum five years of experience in progressively more responsible positions in credit card acquiring transactions, bank operations procedures and controls. 
  • Work experience should include significant accounting responsibilities and two to four years of lead/supervisory experience.

 

Technical Skills: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Power Point) or similar software. 
  • Ability to write advanced Access queries and Excel formulas required. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems.

  • Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. 
  • Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities.
  • Effective and efficient team player with excellent interpersonal skills, who can also resolve problems independently.   
  • Knowledge of banking industry and products, as well as banking compliance as it pertains to credit card business.
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
