A day in your life as a Mortgage Sales Specialist

Under the direction of the Residential Lending Manager and the assigned Loan Officer(s), the Mortgage Sales Specialist is responsible for coordinating applicable residential loan documentation to complete a residential loan transaction pursuant to guidelines as set forth by Bank of Hawaii and secondary marketing investor requirements, from application to closing.  Ensures timely processing and closing of loans within specified timeframes.  Represents the loan officer as needed and provides exemplary customer service. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.

 

We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • As directed, interviews applicants, collects documents and assists in completing the initial loan application from prospective borrowers applying for residential mortgage products. 
  • Analyzes the applicant’s current and recent income, credit and debt picture in order to recommend the suitable loan program for their needs. 
  • Receives the loan request chosen by the customer. 
  • Provides pre-qualification letters as applicable. 
  • Handles daily office administrative tasks as assigned.
  • As directed, assists with plans to generate new business. 
  • Helps prepare for events to outreach to the community and market to establish new referral sources. 
  • Refers clients to subject matter experts in the organization for cross sell opportunities. 
  • Actively tracks sales pipeline. 
  • Leverages support units or alternative delivery channels to match the servicing needs of the client. 
  • Must be able to provide own transportation and ability to commute and arrive at intended destination in a timely manner and/or as required.
  • As directed by the Residential Loan Officer, inputs customer information into the loan origination system makes copies and prepares loan files for submission to underwriting. 
  • Handles other related duties upfront and throughout the processing of the loan as necessary to obtain loan decisions in a timely manner.  This includes the monitoring of a loan pipeline, communicating loan status and final approval terms or loan denials. 
  • Coordinates with escrow and insurance companies for transaction information and sets up the loan signing with the customer to meet closing dates. 
  • Understands program parameters and pricing in order to provide accurate loan options to borrowers as directed by the Residential Loan Officer. 
  • Understands compliance regulations related to the job function and delivers adequate disclosures to the consumer as well as proper guidance on the loan fulfillment process. 
  • Collects required deposits as needed from borrowers and provides them to accounting for disposition.

 

 


Qualifications

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT:  Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry.  If not yet registered, registration to be completed and accepted no later than 30 days from employment or transfer date.  If not registered and accepted, employment may be terminated.

 

Education:  

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution or equivalent work experience.

 

Experience: 

  • 1 - 2 years of experience in mortgage loan origination and/or increasingly responsible positions in high volume processing operation (financial services preferred) which may include up to 1 year of administrative experience, or equivalent work experience.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency and advanced expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) or similar software. 
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software.

 

Other Job Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively and prioritize workload to meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrated customer service skills. 
  • Able to lift, carry, move and transport files of up to 30 lbs.
