A day in your life as a Retail Lending Compliance Officer:

Under the direction of the Retail Lending Compliance Manager, this position is responsible for developing and assisting in the execution of all Retail Lending compliance and operational risk activities, including providing direction to  Credit Card Compliance staff, overseeing the day-to-day compliance programs, developing and maintaining compliance policies and procedures, facilitating the development, maintenance, and monitoring of appropriate compliance-related controls, coordinating and/or monitoring of Retail Lending products, including Credit Card for compliance with consumer laws and regulations, providing compliance support for implementation of product/system enhancements and new or amended laws/regulations, and providing compliance training to bank personnel.  In addition, this position assists the Manager in identifying higher risk activities for Retail Lending, including Credit Card activities (including related delivery channels) and developing and implementing appropriate solutions to mitigate those risks.  Ensures business unit’s adherence to and compliance with regulatory requirements, as well as Bank policies and procedures, related to Anti-Money Laundering, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.

 

We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Develops and implements programs to identify and manage compliance risk stemming from laws and regulations that apply to Retail Lending,   Credit Card activities, as well as the activities of related delivery channels.  Administers a monitoring program for all Retail Lending, Credit Card products and processes as necessary to ensure compliance.  Recommends appropriate solutions or alternatives for identified compliance risks for Retail Lending, Credit Card and related delivery channels as necessary.  Conducts reviews of higher risk activities as necessary.
  • Provides compliance guidance for implementation of changes to Retail Lending (including   Credit Card products and services) required by:  1) new or amended laws and regulations, 2) new products/product changes, and 3) system conversions/enhancements. Reviews, rewrites, and approves related change of terms, bank forms, documents and brochures for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  Assists in business units’ compliance with all regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including those related to Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act, as applicable.
  • Provides recommendations and guidance to Retail Lending departments to ensure new and existing compliance and operating policies and procedures are executable by their respective teams and maintains a high quality experience for customers.  Assists these departments in conducting compliance monitoring and preparing for compliance audits, regulatory examinations, and quality assurance reviews.
  • Coordinates audit findings, responses, and corrective actions between the Audit Department, Corporate Compliance, third party vendors and respective business unit managers. 
  • Reviews, and approves written material (circulars, SPM, marketing collateral, statement messages, etc.) for Retail Lending (including Credit Card) and operational changes to ensure compliance.
  • Obtains and maintains proficient knowledge of consumer laws and regulations; specifically, all laws and regulations relating to Retail Lending.  Obtains and maintains knowledge of bank services, policies and procedures.

 


Qualifications

Education: 

  • College Degree from an accredited educational institution or equivalent work experience. 
  • General knowledge of accounting principles.

 

Experience: 

  • 3-5 years experience in legal/regulatory compliance of banking laws and regulations.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of complex database systems. 
  • Personal computer skills must include proficiencies in the use of Microsoft Windows and network environments.

 

Other Qualifications: 

  • Excellent communication skills, including demonstrated verbal, written, inter-personal and presentation to all levels of management. 
  • Demonstrated ability to discuss and offer alternative or solutions to consumer lending compliance issues with any level of staff person.
