A day in your life as a Senior Mail Clerk

Under the direction of the Manager, this position sorts incoming mail for distribution and delivery; and processes and dispatches outgoing mail.  If applicable or appropriate, assists with the business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.


We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Opens, sorts and processes incoming and outgoing mail. Inspects incoming United States Postal Service Post Office Mail (Letters, flats, etc.) for any suspicious articles. Weighs, meters and posts large volume of outgoing mail.  Dispatches State of Hawaii and Pacific Island branch bags via courier service. 
  • Operates all electronic mail handling equipment. Performs maintenance as required. Operates mail vehicle to deliver and pick up mail between various Bank locations. 
  • Maintains current knowledge of United States Postal Service regulations, domestic and foreign postal rates.  Answers inquiries.
  • Assumes some supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Manager.
  • Maintains various statistical production data. 
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.



  • Minimum 6 months of clerical work experience, mail clerk duties/responsibilities preferred.


Technical Skills: 

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and familiarity with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) or similar software.
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and equipment. 


Other Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented, organized. 
  • Able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. 
  • Should be an active listener and team player who is also a self-starter and can work well independently, without supervision. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and able to operate the mail vehicle. 
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds or more repetitively for up to 6 hours. 
  • Able to bend, lift and carry boxes, trays, etc. regularly.
