A day in your life as a Tax Officer

Under direction of the Manager, this position manages and ensures the quality of work in preparation of federal, state and territorial jurisdiction tax returns and in the computation of estimated and projected taxes.  Also responsible for the coordination and response to tax audits and research of tax issues. If applicable or appropriate, assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.   In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.


We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Analyzes and prepares federal, state and other income tax returns as well as sales and general excise/use tax returns and related reports to ensure company compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Also responsible for the efficient utilization of technology (OneSource Tax Provision, OneSource Income Tax and other tax software) in all aspects of the tax function. 
  • Reviews and reconciles tax accounting for book purposes; tax provisions & deferred tax reconciliations.
  • Coordinates federal, state, and other tax audits and responds to auditors’ questions and requests for records and other documents.
  • Analyzes and prepares estimated & projected tax computations.
  • Minimizes company tax liability through sound and informed application of tax laws and regulations permitting alternate treatment of taxable items.
  • Performs research on tax treatment of transactions. 
  • Reports significant findings to appropriate company personnel. 
  • Prepares written reports and advisories, when necessary.
  • Responds to inquiries from other departments.
  • Consults with and advises financial, legal, and operating management on tax matters.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with major in accounting, finance, other business major or equivalent work experience.  
  • Certified Public Accountant or equivalent work experience preferred.



  • Minimum 4 - 5 years of experience in corporate tax accounting, tax preparation with public accounting firm and/or other experience with U.S. income tax compliance or equivalent work experience.   
  • Audit experience a plus. 
  • Must have advanced understanding of federal, state and local tax regulations, laws, policies, and practices and ASC 740, as well as excellent tax research skills.
  • Lead/supervisory/management experience and project implementation/project management experience with significant roles preferred.


Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) or similar software.   
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software and systems. 
  • Expertise with tax software required.

  • Able to interact well with all levels of employee, management and vendors. 
  • Must be committed to meet deadlines, flexible enough to handle multiple shifting priorities and possess good project management skills. 
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively on teams with others. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
