A day in your life as a Tax Officer:

Under the direction of the Manager, the Tax Officer is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate tax compliance for Bank of Hawaii Corporation and subsidiaries as well as all other assigned duties.  Assists in business unit’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.  In addition, this position is responsible for demonstrating the Excellence in Sales/Service (ESS) philosophy by participating in and practicing ESS disciplines and behaviors.

 

We’ll give you these important responsibilities…

  • Effectively prepares federal, state, and territorial jurisdiction tax returns on a timely basis and related quarterly estimated tax computations.
  • Working closely with other tax department staff, prepares monthly and quarterly provisions work papers in coordination with others; assists in responding to federal and state tax audits; prepares various other tax forms as necessary; performs various research and other projects working with or supervised by other staff.
  • Prepares various loan schedules, fixed asset related schedules, and other various schedules as support for tax work papers on an as needed basis.
  • Makes innovative use of technology (i.e. OneSource and other department programs) to enhance efficiency.
  • Performs various tax research projects as needed and writes memos and letters with clear and precise language in a logical manner.

 

 


Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s  degree from accredited institution with major in accounting, finance, other business major or equivalent work experience

 

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 to 2 years of experience in corporate tax accounting, tax provision preparation with public accounting firm and/or other experience with U.S. income tax compliance, or equivalent work experience. 
  • Must have understanding of federal and state income tax provisions and ASC 740, as well as basic tax research skills.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and) or similar software. 

 

Other Job Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented and organized. 
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, handle multiple priorities and possess good project management skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and with others. 
  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
